| Finally found some crappies! |
Took a trip out to bald eagle. I had 3 spots picked out on the lake map, I had them labeled 1,2,3 in order of which one I wanted to fish first. They were all pretty far away from where I was walking out. My first hole I drilled was in 22 feet of water, I could see fish suspended off of the bottom. This spot was near my number 3 spot, so I tried to find my number one which wasn't far away, I drilled another hole in about 9 feet of water, with no fish being marked. I gave up all hope of finding my #1 and 2 spots, and just stuck with number 3. Took forever to set up the tent like structure that I call an ice house. Once I finally got it set up, I got right into fishing. My first fish was a crappie, so I knew it would be a good day. Most of the crappies I caught throughout the day were about 5-6 inches I had one that got off just as I was going to bring it up through the ice that had to have been about 8-9 inches. Every once in a while, the crappies would go away, so I brought out a spoon jig to see if there was anything big there. This, to my surprise, only brought the crappies back. I employed this strategy about 3-4 times throughout the day. One time when I was using the jig, I even managed to catch a crappie. It was a good day out on the ice. |
