| Fishing Backwater Opening |
| I had a couple good runs on a sucker, but they were not caught. |
I ended up catching a walleye pretty quick after casting into the edy just inside the opening. I figured the fish would be moving up onto the sand slope to feed, so that's where the bait was placed. Using a crawler I also missed one sizable fish that I would guess was a carp by the fight and landed a sheephead. Then I switched over to small live suckers hoping for a catfish. I got two good runs. The first I was a bit quick to the trigger and the second one was still missed, even though I let it swim around with the bait. Looking at the condition of the suckers, my guess it was channels sucking on them. Had I been thinking, I would have switch to cutbait to give me a better chance by upping the odds of the fish getting the hook in the mouth. NOTE TO SELF: When the cats are running with the bait in the mouth, but not enhaling, go to a cutbait where it is easier to rig so the cat takes the hook in too. |
